مخطوطة هذا الكتاب سعت إليَّ، ولم أوسع إليها خلافاً لأعمالي السابقة، فلقد جاد بها عليَّ العلامة الإيراني الشيخ محمد علي الروضاتي – أحد أبرز علماء إيران المعاصرين.
وعندما قرأت المخطوطة، وهي صغيرة لا تزيد عن 53 ورقة، وراجعت فهارس المخطوطات اكتشفت أنها فريدة لا أخت لها في حزائن العالم، وإضافة إلى هذا فهي في الفكر السياسي، فانهمكت على دراستها وتحقيقها بعد أن تأكدت من أصالتها.
مؤلفها – ابن الحاج القناوي كان عالماً وفقيهاً، إلاّ أنه – خلافاً لغيره من العلماء، كان مبتعداً عن الملوك والسلاطين، غير أنه أعجب بصلاح الدين الأيوبي – فاتح القدس – فألّف له هذا الكتاب.
هذا أمر، والأمر الآخر أن الكتب الكثيرة التي ألّفها القناوي ضاعت فبقي له الأثر المهم، ولهذا عكفت على تحقيقه بكل همة، خاصة وأنه يأتي ضمن إهتمامي بتحقيق الكتب الخاصة بالفكر السياسي... فهو الكتاب الرابع الذي أقدّمه للمكتبة العربية بعد: آداب الملوك للثعالبي وأخلاق الملوك للثعلبي وآداب الملوك لعلي بن رزين الكاتب..
"تهذيب ذهن الواعي في إصلاح الرعية والراعي" أثر جديد، أصيل أقدّمه إلى المكتبة العربية والباحثين العرب، مكرراً شكري وإمتناني للعلامة الروضاني الذي أثرني على نفسه، وشجعني على تحقيقه ونشره بكل سخاء.
