إن الدكتور متي في ضوء ذلك يطرح موضوع دور الوعي والدماغ في هذا الخضم من الإشكاليات وفي ضوء المعرفة الفيزيائية بعد أن استعرض التطور المستمر في التجارب والتنظير في الفيزياء التي تمثل أكثر العلوم تقدماً ودقة، والتي وضعت بالعلم المضبوط، ولكن على الرغم من التأكيد أن الوعي يقوم في كثير من الأحوال بدور كبير في فيزياء الكون وحتى السيطرة على مرافق كثيرة فيه، أنه يتجنب الخوض في علاقة الوعي والفكر بالدماغ بشكل تفصيلي وإلى مشكلة العقل والجسم وبالتالي إلى هذه الازدواجية المستعصية التي بذرها ديكارت في الفكر البشري برمته.
ومن التساؤلات التي لها أهمية في نظرية المعرفة بالتأكيد والتي يطرحها الدكتور متي هو: هل للعلم حدود وأين يقودنا العلم؟ ولكن لا تبدو الإجابة عنه ميسرة على هذه التساؤلات، ولكن الإدراك الواعي والحس المرهف للدكتور متي ينقلنا إلى الجانب الأخلاقي والقيم للعلم، وإلى طرح فكرة ضرورة أن يرتبط العلم بالغايات التي تخدم المجتمع الإنساني ككل، ومن الواضح أنه يقف معارضاً لهذا الاستخدام اللاأخلاقي للعلم من قبل بعض الجهات التي تهيمن على سياسة القوى الكبرى، لذا فإن الدكتور متي يختتم كتابه بالدعوة إلى فلسفة واقعية وأخلاقية للعلم، بما يؤطر النشاط العلمي ضمن المجتمع البشري.
