أما الفصل الثاني تضمن مفهوم التفكير وخصائصه ومستوياته ومزاياه وأهم أدوات التفكير، فضلاً عن مفهوم مهارات التفكير وحاول المؤلفان إلقاء الضوء على دور المعلم في تنمية مهارات التفكير، وأهمية تعليم مهارات التفكير للمعلمين والطلبة، والتعرف على أهم المعوقات التي تواجه تعليم مهارات التفكير.
وتضمن الفصل الثالث مفهوم التفكير التاريخي وخصائصه وأهميته، وإلى تنمية التفكير التاريخي والتعرف على أساليب تنمية التفكير التاريخي فضلاً عن مهارات التفكير التاريخي وتصنيفها، ودور المعلم في تنمية مهارات التفكير التاريخي والتعرف على التطبيقات العملية للتدريب على مهارات التفكير التاريخي.
وحاول المؤلفان في الفصل الرابع جمع أهم الدراسات التي اختصت بالتفكير والتفكير التاريخي بشكل خاص وبلغ عددها أربعة عشر دراسة.
