والمؤلف د. روبير صفدي، رغم ما يذهب إليه من أن محمد عبد الوهاب شكل بفنه وعطاءه ظاهرة فريدة تستحق التأمل والوقوف عندها طويلاً، وإن الموسيقى العربية شهدت عصرين أو مرحلتين، عصر ما قبل عبد الوهاب، وعصر محمد عبد الوهاب، فإنه لا يقلل من أهمية رواد التأسيس الذين أحدثوا تجديداً في عالم الموسيقى والفناء حتى مجيء عبد الوهاب سنة 1927 إذ أحدث انقلاباً في الأداء واللحن وأدخل آلات موسيقية جديدة على التخت الشرقي، كآلة الفلوت والفيولستيل، والكوتترباحى كما كان عبد الوهاب أول من قدم الأغنية الطويلة، التي لا ترتبط بمدة زمنية حيث شكل هذا بداية نهضة فنية جديدة في الغناء العربي، قدم خلالها عبد الوهاب أجمل أغانيه، الجندول، والكرنك، وكليوباترا، وحياتي أمن وغيرها من الأغنيات.
