إن المؤلفات في موضوع الأدعية والأذكار وعمل اليوم والليلة كثيرة جداً ومتنوعة فمنها التي يخرج أصحابها الأحاديث بسندهم إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، مثل كتاب النسائي "عمل اليوم والليلة"، ومنها ما يجمع فيه المؤلف من كتب السابقين مع حذف الأسانيد أو بعضها، أو اختصار لتلك الكتب مثل كتاب النووي "الأذكار حلية الأبرار وشعار الأخيار في تلخيص الدعوات والأذكار".
ومن هذه الكتب الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا "الحصن الحصين من كلام سيد المرسلين" لابن الجزري" شيخ القراء في زمانه. وقد أخرجه من الأحاديث الصحيحة غالباً، من كتب الأصول، وقد جرده عن الأسانيد. ووطأ للكتاب بمقدمة ذكر فيها أنه وضع رموزاً للكتب التي خرج منها هذه الأحاديث بحروف تدل على ذلك وأنه جعل هذه الرموز لعالم يربأ بنفسه عن التقليد، أو لمتعلم يتعرف صحيح الكتب والمسانيد، وليس لعموم الناس، أنه لا احتياج إليها عندهم وخصوصا وأنه حاول أن يكون "جمع ما فيه صحيحاً".
أما عن تسمية الكتاب "الحصن الحصين" فيظهر أنه أخذه من حديث يذكره في الكتاب: وآمركم أن تذكروا الله فإن مثل ذلك كمثل رجل خرج العدو في أثره سراعاً، حتى إذا أتى على حصن حصين فأحرز نفسه منهم، كذلك العبد لا يحرز نفسه من الشيطان إى بذكر الله تعالى. وبالنظر لأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى بتحقيقه وبضبط نصه، وإخراجه بأسلوب فني من حيث الشكل والمضمون كما اهتم المحقق بشرح الكلمات التي تحتاج إلى شرح مستعيناً في ذلك بكتاب الشوكاني "تحفة الذاكرين بعدة الحصن الحصين".
