شعر بدغدغة في صدره، كأن يَرَقَة حَبَتْ بين ضلوعه بأرجلها الدقيقة. استكانت الدغدغةُ بُرْهَة، ثم عادت كَرَفْرَفَة أجنحة رقيقة، كَما الفَراشة تتسلل من شرنقتها، تسللت روحه من بين ضلوعه وحلقت فوقه، سابحة في الفضاء، تنظر إلى حيث يَرْبُض، حيث مسرح حياته.
كان في أروقة البرْزخ، حيث العابرون… لا يعيشون ولا يموتون. يَرون، يفقهون، يدركون.
لا يحزنون، لا يفرحون، لا يخافون… يَسْمَعون ولا يُسْمَعون.
تعالت الابتهالات. اقترب الجَمْعُ إلى حيث يرقد جسده.
رأى بعيني روحه نساء وأطفالاً ورجالاً، يرتدون أثواباً خضراء من السندس، تتقاطر من أكمامها الفضفاضة قطرات المسك.
أحاطوا بجسده المسجى فوق التراب.
