تدور أحداث الرواية في بيئة غريبة عن شخوصها بشكل عام، فشخوص الرواية غرباء عن ليبيا، المكان الذي تدور فيه أحداث الرواية، وهم سوريون أو مصريون أو فلسطينيون أو حتى أفارقة، هربوا مما يتعرضون اليه في اوطانهم من ظلم وملاحقات، واستخدموا أرض ليبيا وبحرها للانطلاق منها الى بلاد أوروبا الاكثرأمناً لهم ولأسرهم كما كانوا يظنون.
يركز السارد على تلك الفترة التي يفر فيها هو وزوجته وولديه من الحرب التي بدأت تحط رحاها في ليبيا أيضاً بين العصابات المسلحة، حيث يقعوا بين ايادي المهربين الذين يقومون باختطافهم وابتزازهم.
يقضون هو وأسرته و عوائل أخرى فترة من الزمن تحت رحمة أولئك المهربين يصف الكاتب تلك الفترة بما فيها من أحداث مؤلمة مؤثرة صادمة، إلى أن يستطيع النجاة كما كان يتخيل من قبضتهم.. فيقع في دوامة قدرية أخرى أشد إيلاماً وأكثر روعا مما يحتمل..
الأحداث بمجملها واقعية وحقيقية تعرض لها الكاتب هو وأسرته، وبعضها جاء على لسان أشخاص وقعوا ضحايا لا حول لهم أمام أولئك المفترسين من البشر.
