ركبت سيارتي ومررت من أمام ثكنة بهجت غانم متجهة نحو جبل محسن أحاول استكشاف أين يقع بيت عفاف، ولا أدري لماذا شعرت بالغيرة من امرأة عشقها أبي. بحثت عن أغنية أبي المفضلة «كتاب حياتي يا عين ما لقيتش زيو كتاب الفرح فيه سطرين والباقي كله عذاب» وعاودت المرور من التبانة نحو سوق الخضار لأشتري لأبي التوت الذي يحبه. وصلت إلى الشاليه وشوقي يسبقني لضم أبي إلى صدري، لأتجمد من هول ما رأيته، سلسلته مرمية بقبضة يدها على الأرض والكرسي المتحرك مقلوباً، ورقبة أبي مربوطة بحزام من جلد التمساح وهو يبتسم مرمياً على الأرض جثة باردة لا حياة فيها.
