في دراسته هذه ، يتناول الدكتور عوّاد صالح الحياوي ، الدلالة الحركية للطبيعة ( المكان والزمان والنبات والماء ) متتبعاً الأبيات التي تحدثت عن الطبيعة في ثنايا المعلقات العشر ، والغاية ، هي بيان دلالة الطبيعة بجبالها ووديانها وبرقها ومطرها عند الشعراء ، فينطلق من الطلل وما صاحبه من أمكنة كانت مستقراً للقبائل مرة وللمحبوبة مرة ، ومنها ما هو وافر الماء ومنها ما هو مجدب في الماء والنبات بأصنافه المتعددة .
وبناءً على ماتقدم تم للمؤلف دراسة الدلالية الحركية للطبيعة في معلقة امرئ القيس ، وفي معلقة طرفة بن العبد ، وفي معلقة زهير بن أبي سلمى ، وفي معلقة لبيد بن ربيعة ، وفي معلقة عنترة العبسي ( ... ) وآخرون . لذلك وجد المؤلف أنه لم يخلُ نصاً من عناصر الطبيعة الصامتة والمتحركة الخصبة والمجدبة ، فمرة تضن ومرة تجود ، والشاعر يتقلب بين جنباتها يتعايش معها ، والماء لم تخلُ منه معلقة ، سواء على هيئة مطر أو سيل أو غدير أو بحر ، كما وجد المؤلف أن الزمن كان يطارد الشعراء ، ويخيفهم من جراء إتيانه على الأحياء من حولهم ، ويرسل الزمن بقوى الخير مرة وقوى الشر مرة ثانية ، وتجلت في القصائد بصور رمزية وصراعات بين الحيوانات وكلاب الصيد التي ترمز لقوى الشر مرة ثانية ، وتجلت في القصائد بصور رمزية وصراعات بين الحيوانات وكلاب الصيد التي ترمز لقوى الشر ، كما وظف الشعراء في قصائدهم ما هو نامٍ مثمر من الأشجار والأزهار وغيرها ، وما هو ميت كالصخور والرمال والجبال ، وما هو خاص بالجو ، كالرعد والبرق المطر والريح . وأيضاً النباتات التي كانت حاضرة ومنها النخلة التي ارتبطت بصورة المرأة والفرس لأهميتها الإقتصادية ، كونها مثمرة ، فضلاً عن صور لنباتات من قلب الصحراء منها ما كان دالاً على الخصب والعطاء ، ومنها ما كان يشي بالقسوة والجفاء .
