مما اتجهت إليه هممُ المصنفين في علوم الشريعة التصنيفُ في الآداب الشرعية، مما يحتاجه المسلم في تعاملاته، وكانت هذه المصنفات دائرةً بين السعة والشمول وبين الإختصار والإقتصاد على جانب دون جانب، ومن أشهر ما يذكر في هذا المجال "الآداب الشرعية والمنح المرعية" لإبن مفلح المقدسي، و"إحياء علوم الدين" للغزالي، و"مختصر منهاج القاصدين" للمقدسي، و"حلية الأبرار وشعار الأخيار" المعروف بــ "الأذكار" للنووي، و"بستان العارفين" للسمرقندي وكثيرٌ غيرها.
ومن هذا الكثير كتابُ "أدب الدنيا والدين" للشيخ الإمام أبي الحسن الماوردي، وهو كتاب متميز قصد فيه مؤلفه إلى أن يجمع الآداب الناظمة لحياة الإنسان مما يحتاجه ويصلح أموره، فرأى بدايةً أن أهم الأمور قدراً وأعظمها نفعاً ما كان به إستقامة أمر الدين وصلاح أمر الدنيا، ولأن إستقامة الدين تُصحّح العبادة، وصلاح الدنيا يتمم السعادة.
وقد جعل الماروديُّ رحمة الله تعالى كتابه في أبواب هي في فضل العقل وذم الهوى، وفي أدب العلم والدين والدنيا والنفس، فبيَّن في كل باب منها ما يتعلق به، مستشهداً عليه بما في كتاب الله جلَّ وعلا، وبما في سنّة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم أتبع ذلك بشيءٍ من المشهور من أقوال الحكماء والأدباء والشعراء، فكان الكتابُ حديقةً فيها من تنوع الألوان والروائح ما يتحف القلب ويُريحه إليه، وما ينفع العقل ويجذبه إليه.
فإن أتى الطالبُ إلى هذا الكتاب وجد فيه معلماً ومربياً، وإن أتاه الواعظ أو الخطيب وجده مستودعاً وذخراً، ولا يعدمُ الصغيرُ أو الكبير فيه نفعاً بإذن الله تعالى.
