النظرية الأدبية، والنظرية النسوية، ونظرية السرد هي الخطابات الثلاثة التي تلتقي في هذه الدراسة، فتتقاطع في تأملها تلك العلاقات التي تتمثّل فيها إشكاليات الحياة واللغة الإنسانيتين، وذلك على نحو يسلّط فيه كلُّ خطابٍ الضوء على الخطاب الآخر بدلاً من أن يسيطر عليه أو يستتبع له، ويغدو غرضُ المواجَهة رصد التفاعل الذي تبديه مختلف الإستجابات التي تشكّل تلقي قصص الحب التوراتية وإستقبالها.
ليس الكتاب المقدّس مرجعاً نسوياً أو بياناً جنسانياً، وما يناقشه كتابنا هذا هو الوظيفة الثقافية لواحدة من أهم الوثائق الأسطورية والأدبية في الثقافة العالمية، بوصفها مثالاً يعبر بقوّة عما يمكن للغة والأدب أن يفعلاه لثقافة ما، خاصّة طريقة إفصاحها عن الجنوسة.
لا يستعيد هذا الكتاب معنى "أصلياً" ولا معنى مفضلاً، فمثل هذه المحاولة تنطوي على تناقض داخلي هو الذي يدفع كتابنا وراء إيقاع الإضطراب في وهم الأصل.
ولا يرمي كتابنا - أخيراً إلى إيضاح الكيفية التي تحلّ بها نظرية السرد الحديثة محلّ الصوت الإلهي كسلطة تثبّت المعنى، ولا يتفق مع أولئك البحّاثة التوراتيين الذين يزعمون أن شعريات الكتاب المقدّس غريبة كل الغرابة عن نظرياتنا الحديثة لدرجة أن هذه الأخيرة تغدو عاجزةً إزاءها، مثل هذه النسبية الثقافية تخفي إيماناً بسلطة الأصل لم يُحسم بعد.
إن حواراً بين النصّ القديم ونظرياتنا الحديثة كفيل بأن يشوّش الإفتراضات المسبقة لدى كليهما، وهذه إجراءٌ يعد بمزيد من الفائدة.
