إن خير ما أُنفقت فيه الأعمار.. الاشتغال بعد القرآن الكريم بسنة سيد الأبرار، عليه الصلاة والسلام ما تعاقب الليل والنهار، ولقد بذل العلماء أعمارهم خدمة لسنة المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم. فلقد اعتنوا بعلم الحديث أيما اعتناء، وخدموه من كل جوانبه، فألَّفوا الكتب الجمَّة في جمعه وتدوينه، وفي صحيحه وحسنه، وضعيفه وموضوعه، وناسخه ومنسوخه، وفي ضبط ألفاظه ورواياته وأسماء رواته وأنسابهم وتراجمهم وبلدانهم ورحلاتهم، وسني وفاتهم وأسماء شيوخهم ومن أخذ عنهم، فلم يتركوا شيئاً لمستدركٍ ولا شكاً لمرتاب. قال الإمام علي بن المديني رحمه الله تعالى: (التفقه في معاني الحديث نصف العلم، ومعرفة الرجال نصف العلم). فمعرفة الرواة علم له وقع عند المسلمين، لا يستغنى عنه، ولا يعتنى بأهم منه، فهم النقلة والوسائط بيننا وبين الهادي من الضلالة والمبصِّر من العمى والجهالة صلى الله عليه وسلم، فكان التعريف بهم من الواجبات؛ ولذا قام به في القديم والحديث أهل الحديث، بل نجوم الهدى ورجوم العدى. سأل إسماعيل بن عياش رجلاً اختباراً: أي سنة كتبت عن خالد بن معدان؟ فقال: سنة ثلاث عشرة ومئة، فقال: أنت تزعم أنك سمعت منه بعد موته بسبع سنين؟! ولذا قال سفيان الثوري رحمه الله تعالى: (لما استعمل الرواة الكذب.. استعملنا لهم التاريخ). فلم يُستَعنْ على الكذَّابين بمثل التاريخ، يقال للشيخ: سنة كم ولدت؟ فإذا أقر بمولده.. عُرف صدقه من كذبه، وبذلك يتبين ما في الإسناد من انقطاع أو عضل أو تدليس أو إرسال، ومعرفة المختلط، فجزى الله علماءنا على ما ورَّثوه لنا من كنوز. وكتابنا الذي بين أيدينا مختص برجال صحيح الإمام مسلم، وجرى بين المحدثين عرفٌ بأن من روى له الشيخان.. فهو موثق، فيقولون عنه: من رجال «الصحيحين» وكفى به توثيقاً. فهذا الكتاب الجليل، يقدمه مؤلفه للقراء عامة، ولطلبة الحديث خاصة، راجياً من الله القبول، فإنه خير مأمول.
