يضم الكتاب مجموعات من الدراسات التي تتناول قضية العلاقة بين التحول الديمقراطي وتحرير المرأة وذلك من خلال استعراض عدداً من اشكاليات الواقع المرتبطة بتطور مكانة المرأة وأوضاعها في المجتمعات العربية والحقوق التي تقررت لها والحقوق التي ينبغي ان تصير لصيقة بوجودها كإنسان ومواطن. وقد أردفت هذه الدراسات دراسات على أرض الواقع من خلال ثلاث حالات قطرية من منظور المرأة والتنمية في السعودية والامارات ولبنان.
هذا الكتاب هو الخامس عشر من "سلسلة المستقبل العربي" ويعالج قضية العلاقة العضوية بين التحول الديمقراطي وتحرير المرأة، من ناحية، ودور المرأة المؤكد في الشأن العربي العام: تحريراً وتنمية ووحدة، من ناحية أخرى.
إن الواقع العربي يحمل في طياته مزيجاً مؤلماً من أشكال قهر الإنسان العربي على مختلف الصعد، ويشترك في تحمل هذه الأثقال، وفي محاولة الخروج منها، الرجل والمرأة. على أن المرأة تتعرض لمركب معقد من القهر، فإلى جانب القهر الواقع عليها مباشرة تتعرض كذلك لانعكاسات القهر على الرجل، بالإضافة إلى تحديات خاصة ترتبط بالتركيب الاجتماعي العربي وبالتراث الذي ما زال حياً..
يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات المتصلة بهذا الموضوع، وهي تنقسم إلى قسمين: القسم الأول يستعرض عدداً من إشكاليات الواقع المرتبطة بتطور مكانة المرأة وأوضاعها في المجتمعات العربية، فضلاً عن الأدوار التي تقوم بها في المجالات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، وكذلك الحقوق التي تقررت لها، والحقوق التي ينبغي أن يصير لصيقة بوجودها كإنسان ومواطن. أما القسم الثاني فيستعرض ثلاث حالات قطرية من منظور المرأة والتنمية في السعودية والإمارات ولبنان. أما خاتمة الكتاب فتدور حول المرأة العربية وتحديات القرن الحالي.
