منذ أربع سنوات تقريباً كان بعض من سيدات شهود يهوه القاطنات في بلدة كوسبا اللبنانية يحاولن التأثير على معارفهن وأقربائهن، ومن بينهن عدة سيدات كن يجتمعن مع غيرهن في فرقة لدراسة الكلمة الإلهية وعيشها بحسب تعاليم الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية وحياتها. ولهذا بدأت أولئك السيدات يطرحن أسئلة تتعلق بالنقاط التي كانت سيدات شهود يهوه يشوشن أذهانهن بها، وكنّ يتلقين الجواب المناسب. لكنهن كن يأتين بأسئلة جديدة في لقاء آخر وهكذا. فاقترحت مواجهة مباشرة لمرشد فرقتهن مع سيدات شهود يهوه كي يصار إلى وضع النقاط على الحروف في القضية التي كانت تشغل بالهن في ذلك الحين وهي "المجيء الثاني للرب يسوع" وهذا ما تم فعلاً في قاعة حركة الشبيبة الأرثوذكسية في كوسبا بحضور سيدات الفرقة مع عدد من المؤمنين الآخرين.
إلا أن المناظرة لم تقتصر على موضوع مجيء الرب الثاني بل تعدّته إلى مواضيع أخرى تهم كل مسيحي كمسألة ألوهية الابن وتجسده وقيامه وصعوده، اسم يهوه في العهد الجديد... وتوالت آلة التسجيل حفظ ما قيل في المناظرة على ثلاثة أشرطة، وقد تداولت الأيدي نسخاً من هذه الأسئلة. ووجد بعض المؤمنين المسيحيين فائدة من الاستماع إليها فاقترحوا أن تكتب وتنشر. وما في هذا الكتاب ليس إلا مضمون الحوار السابق الإشارة إليه منقول إلى اللغة الفصحى البسيطة، ومضاف إليه بعض المقدمات العامة والملاحق والحواشي التي تلزم من أجل التوضيح وزيادة المنفعة.
