دلت قواطع الكتاب والسنّة على تنزيه الباري سبحانه، واستنكف العقلاء وأصحاب الفطر السليمة من وصف الباري سبحانه بشيء من أوصاف الأجسام المادية، ولكنْ لما خاض الخائضون فيما تشابه من نصوص القرآن الكريم والسنّة الشريفة وقعوا في حمى التجسيم، وصرحوا بوصف الباري بلوازم الأجسام وخواصها، فتعين على أهل السنّة القيام بدفع البدعة ونقض الشبهة.
والصراع في مقالة التجسيم صراعٌ بين عقلٍ صحيح مؤيد بنقل صريح يقابله حسٍّ يتشوَّفُ وَوَهُمٌ يتطلع إلى وصف الباري سبحانه بأحكام المحسوسات من الأجسام.
ولا يخفى على أحد خطر مقالة التجسيم، ولكن لم يكن خطر هذه المقالة في يوم من الأيام مستمداً من نضوجها الفكري وإستنادها العقلي، فهي مقالة أساسها أخبار منكرة متشابهة وشبهات واهية باردة في مقابلة نصوص محكمة متواترة، لكنَّ خطر هذه المقالة يظهر في دأب أصحابها الذي يختارون الكمون والإسرار حال وجود العلماء وقوة السلطان السياسي في دولة الإسلام، حتى إذا غاب دور العلماء وضعُفت سلطة الإسلام نشط الخائضون في المتشابه من عقالهم فاتبعوا المتشابه ورفعوا شعارات البراءة من الفلسفة وعلم الكلام ومحاربة البدعة، ثم استنصروا بمن يغتر بتلك الشعارات من العوام فسلطوهم على علماء الأمة بما يقدرون عليه من الأذى، واتخذوهم غرضاً لسهام التبديع والتحذير والتجريح والتضييق.
ويحفظ التاريخ أن ظهور هذه المقالة مقرون بضعف حال المسلمين، وأن ظهور المسلمين على أعدائهم يقترن بظهور التنزيه.
