يضم هذا الكتاب بين طياته خمس دراسات، خصصت الأولى منها لدراسة شرط الحديث الصحيح عند الإمام البخاري، ومهدت لذلك ببيان تعريف الحديث الصحيح وشرطه في اصطلاح علم الحديث، ثم بحثت في شرط الصحيح عند البخاري، وما قاله العلماء في هذا المجال.
أما في الدراسة الثانية فبحثت في تأليف الإمام البخاري لكتاب (الجامع الصحيح)، وحاولت إثارة بعض الملاحظات على الطريقة التي اعتمدها في ذلك، وبحثت في التراجم التي افتتح بها أوائل أبواب كتابه.
وفي الدراسة الثالثة تناولت مجموعة من الرواة الذين روى عنهم البخاري في كتابه مع أنهم من المجروحين والمطعون فيهم من قبل أئمة علم الرجال، وذكرت ما قيل في الجواب عن ذلك، ورددت على الجواب بما يناسبه.
أما الدراسة الرابعة فعمدت إلى البحث في مجموعة من روايات (الجامع الصحيح) التي لم يثبت توفرها على شروط الصحة، بل إن لبعض العلماء الأعلام كلاماً فيها، فنقلت كلمات هؤلاء العلماء، وما قيل في الدفاع عن البخاري، وبينت وجه عدم الصحة فيما ذكر.
وأما الدراسة الخامسة والأخيرة فقد حاولت الكشف عن أسباب عدم رواية الإمام البخاري عن أحد رجالات الإسلام البارزين والرواة المعروفين، وهو جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام المعروف بـ"الصادق"، وقدم للبحث فيها بذكر ترجمة جعفر بن محمد، هذا إلى جانب ذكر لبعض كلمات العلماء فيه وتقييمهم لرواياته وأحاديثه، وأشارت إلى بعض طرقهم إليه، وناقشت ما ذكروه من أعذار لعدم رواية البخاري عنه.
