الاخفش الأصغر (235 - 315 هـ = 849 - 927 م)
علي بن سليمان بن الفضل، أبو المحاسن، المعروف بالأخفش الأصغر: نحوي، من العلماء.
من أهل بغداد. أقام بمصر سنة 287 - 300 هـ وخرج إلى حلب، ثم عاد إلى بغداد، وتوفي بها، وهو ابن 80 سنة. له تصانيف، منها «شرح سيبويه» و «الأنواء» و «المهذب». وكان ابن الرومي مكثرا من هجوه .

(فائدة مقتطفة من سير أعلام النبلاء للذهبي) :
الأَخْفَشُ:هُوَ الضَّعِيْفُ البَصَرِ، مَعَ صِغَرِ العَيْنِ.
- وَكَانَ الأَخْفَشُ الكَبِيْرُ ( ت 177 هـ) فِي دَوْلَةِ الرَّشِيْدِ، أَخَذَ عَنْهُ:سِيْبَوَيْه، وَأَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ، وَهُوَ:أَبُو الخَطَّابِ عَبْد الحَمِيْدِ بنُ عَبْدِ المَجِيْدِ الهَجَرِيُّ اللُّغَوِيُّ .
- وَكَانَ بِدِمَشْقَ - قَبْلَ الثَّلاَثِ مائَةٍ - الأَخْفَشُ، المُقْرِئُ (ت 292 هـ) ؛صَاحِبُ ابْنِ ذَكْوَانَ
- وَكَانَ فِي أَيَّامِ المَأْمُوْنِ الأَخْفَشُ الأَوْسَطُ (ت 215 هـ) ؛ شَيْخُ العَرَبِيَّةِ، وَهُوَ أَبُو الحَسَنِ سَعِيْدُ بنُ مَسْعَدَةَ ؛صَاحِبِ سِيْبَوَيْه.
- والأَخْفَشُ الصَّغِيْرُ ( ت 315 هـ) هو العَلاَّمَةُ، النَّحْوِيُّ، أَبُو الحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بنِ الفَضْلِ البَغْدَادِيُّ [الذي كان ابن الرومي يهجوه]
