لا يكون العالم عالماً اذا كان مثله مثل سائر الناس في زمانه، بل يكون عالماً بتميزه عن ابناء عصره، ويكون عالماً عظيماً بما يتفوق به على غيره من العلماء، ويستحق ان يسمى امام دار الهجرة، او حجة الاسلام، او سلطان العلماء، او امام الحرمين، فبماذا تميز ابن تيميه حتى سمي شيخ الاسلام؟ كما ظلم ابن تيميه في حياته من معاصريه حتى مات في السجن، فانه ظلم من كثير من المعاصرين اليوم، سواء من محبيه او مبغضيه؛ فكثير من محبيه يشوهون صورته بانتسابهم اليه وهم يقدمون صورة عن الفكر الاسلامي بعيدة عن فهم ابن تيمية، وكثير من مبغضيه يفترون عليه ويقولونه ما يقل، فما سر ذلك وما دوافعه؟ دخل ابن تيمية في كثير من الخصومات في حياته واختصم الناس فيه بعد مماته واشتد خلافهم حوله، ما بين وصفه بشيخ الاسلام وقدوة الانام ومجدد الدين، واعتباره ضالاً مضلاً وكافراً ملحداً، فكيف نفهم ذلك؟ ولا يمكن فهم اراء العالم وفكره وفقهه حق الفهم من كثرة كتبه وفتاواه، حتى يتم الكشف عن طريقة تفكيره في المسائل ومنهجه في النظر فيها، فما عناصر النظرة التيمية في المعرفة والمنهج؟ ما حقيقة موقف ابن تيمية من مسالة العقل والنقل، وبخاصة اذا علمنا انه يؤكد "موافقة صحيح المنقول لصريح المعقول" و"درء تعارض العقل والنقل" وهما كما هو معروف عنوانان لكتابين له في الموضوع؟ كيف ولماذا اشتهر لدى المؤلفين ان ابن تيمية ينقض المنطق، وهو لم يفعل ذلك ولا قال به، وانما انتقد المقولات الفاسدة من المنطق الارسطي، وقدم منطقاً متكاملاً بديلاً عنه؟ هذه بعض الاسئلة التي يحاول هذا الكتاب ان يجيب عنها.
