هذا كتاب في اللغة العربية، لعلك قلت في نفسك عندما رأيته: إنه كبير الحجم. وهذا قول مشروع معروف. إن الدارسين، عادة، ينظرون إلى حجم الكتاب: فإذا رأوه كبيراً شعرواً بأنه سيكون عليهم عبئاً ثقيلاً. ولكننا نحب أن نطمئنك، منذ البدء، على هذه الناحية.
وذلك أن هذا الكتاب يختلف عن الكتب المتداولة وخاصة الكتب المدرسية المقررة، والكتب الجامعية التقليدية. فالكتب المقررة المتداولة، كما تعلم، يتناولها الأستاذ والطلبة بالدراسة والمناقشة في قاعة الصف أو قاعة المحاضرة، يعرض الأستاذ المادة بطريقته الخاصة، ويشارك الطلبة في أثناء ذلك، يسألون ويسألون.. الخ.
ولو تصورت حجم ما يقال في قاعة المحاضرة، وما يدور من النقاش لوجدته شيئاً كثيراً جداً يفوق حجم الكتاب أضعافاً.
إن هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدي يمثل الكتاب التقليدي المقرر من ناحية احتوائه على المادة العلمية، ولكنه يجمع إلى ذلك دورين رئيسين: دور الأستاذ، ودور الطالب. إنه، بعبارة أخرى يجسد ما يحدث في قاعة المحاضرة، وهو يقدم المادة العلمية وأستاذ في آن معاً. ولعل هذا يفسر كبر حجمه.
وصحيح أنك ستقرؤه بنفسك وحدك، ولكنك ستلاحظ أنه يعتبرك محوراً أساسياً فيه. فهو يحدثك ويخاطبك شخصياً، يعرض عليك المادة بوضوح وتسلسل، ويلقي إليك الأسئلة، وأنت تتفهم، وتجيب، ويعرض عليك القضايا، ويأخذ بيدك إلى محاورتها وحلها، ويهيئ الفوائد العلمية، ويحاول أن يشوقك ويمتعك بمتابعتها.
