الحج إلى الديار المقدسة في الحجاز، رحلة إسمانية يهجر فيها الحاج أهله وأرضه، ليتصل اتصالاً مباشراً بالمشاعر المقدسة ابتداءاً من الكعبة وما حولها من مشاعر، وانتهاء بعرفات ومزدلفة ومنى، ثم المدينة المنورة لزيارة مسجد المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ولقد كان ممن حظي بشرف هذه الرحلة كثير من رجال الأدب والفكر والعلم الذين انصهرت قلوبهم بحب الله ورسوله، وسعوا طوال أيامهم كي يحوزوا هذه المكرمة الربانية، وينالوا هذا الشرف العظيم، فيحجوا البيت الحرام ويشاهدوا عظمة الحق ونور النبوة التي سطعت في هذه البقعة المباركة، وانتشرت إلى كل أصقاع المعمورة، فتحقق لكثير منهم تلك (الرحلة الحجية)، وسجلوا ما شاهدوا وما وجدوا من صعوبات ومهالك، وووا أحداثاً ألمّت بهم بعضها يسر وبعضها يدمي الخاطر. وقد سجلوا كل ذلك بعبارات منمقة تدلّ على أدب وثقافة وعلم وقدرة على الصياغة اللغويّة والأسلوبية مستخدمين في كل ذلك الدقّة والأمانية العلمية.
وبناء على ذلك تشكّل لدينا سفر متكامل لأحوال الأمّة الإسلامية التي كانت تصل وفودها إلى الحج في كل عام، وحظيت المكتبة العربيّة والإسلاميّة بالعديد من الرحلات الحجيّة.
وفي هذا الكتاب يتعرف القارئ إلى ملامح وصور وفضاءات أدبيّة مما سجّله بعض الرحالة / الحجاج وذلك من خلال القراءة الواعية في المتن والمضامين.
