أُعِدّ هذا الكتاب (الإقتصاد الكلي: الأسس والتطبيقات) لإستعمال طلبة الإقتصاد في المراحل الجامعية الأولى، ويؤمل أن يكون ذا فائدة للباحث لأسلوبه في تناول المشاكل الإقتصادية.
أما التطبيقات الواردة في فصول الكتاب فستكون ذات قيمة كبيرة للدّارسين والباحثين أيضاً.
وتشير التجارب إلى أن كثيراً من الذين يدرسون أسس علم الإقتصاد لا يتذكرون الكثير مما تعلموه بعد فترة وجيزة من الزمن.
وقد وجد أنّ من أهم أسباب ذلك أمران: أولهما: أن أغلب كتب الإقتصاد تدخل في تفاصيل لا تناسب المرحلة، وثانيهما: وهو الأهم، أن هذه الكتب وحتى أساليب التدريس في الجامعات لا تؤسس لربط النظرية بالتطبيق مع التنويه أنّ علم الإقتصاد يمكن إستيعابه وتذكر مفاهيمه إذا تمّ ربط الأفكار الجديدة بما يمكن أن يحدث في الحياة العملية.
وعلى خلفية هذه الأسباب جاء تأليف هذا الكتاب ليقدّم أُسس علم الإقتصاد الكلي بأسلوب أقل ما يمكن القول عنه أنه غير تقليدي.
