"ولادة بنت المستكفي" ملحمة أسطورية دوّنها محمد بعد الرحمن يونس، واستطاع من خلالها أن ينفذ إلى أدق المشاعر الإنسانية ويعاين قلقها وهمومها، ويستنزف انفعالات شخوصها لتتناثر عبر عالم رحب، تتصل فيما بينها معلنة ولادة عالم مشوّه تحكمه مملكة الخوف والقهر والظلم الإنساني.
وقد اعتمد الكاتب في روايته على شخصيات تاريخية حقيقية، "ولادة بنت المستكفي"؛ "ابن زيدون"، "عباس بن فرناس"، مستفيداً بذلك من الرمز كمادة مهمة، تتيح له حرية التحليل، وإطلاق الأحكام، موظفاً تلك الشخصيات لمعرفة العالم المعاصر، لتنتظم في سلك الزمن الممتد الذي تنهار فيه صرح الأخلاق، وقد ضمّن شخصياته هذه شروطاً ممتابعة من أفعال وعواطف، محللاً ظواهرها السطحية التي تختفي بين ثناياها دلالات إيجابية إنسانية، وبالتالي فإن شخصيات الرواية، ما هي إلا صورة حقيقية لنماذج معاصرة، ربما تكونها نحن أو يكونها الآخرون، مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار مَنْ نحنُ ومَنْ الآخرون.
