لا يخرج المناضل الفلسطيني الشاعر ناجي علوش عن الأبعاد الواقعية لتجربة المقاومة في مجموعته الشعرية "النوافذ التي تفتحها القنابل" فهذا العنوان خير تعبير عن الحياة التي عاشها الشاعر وكتب خلالها شعره، وكان ذلك بين ستينيات وسبعينيات القرن العشرين.
يبدأ الكتاب بمقدمة عن حياة الشاعر علوش كمقاوم في صفوف المقاومة الفلسطينية ثم ينتقل إلى علاقته بالشعر ورأيه في مهمة الشاعر، وكيف تحول من الشعر إلى النثر، كما يتحدث فيها عن العوامل التي أدت إلى هزيمة الحركة الوطنية وهزيمة الواقعية الإشتراكية في الشعر وعن انتصار تيار أيليوت وبيكيت والمدرسة الغربية الحديثة أدبياً ...
القصائد تدور في أجواء حرب 67 وتؤسس موضوعاتها على الحرب والشهادة والإنتماء للوطن والمقاومة المشروعة، والغربة والبعد عن الوطن.
في القصيدة المعنونة "النوافذ التي تفتحها القنابل" والتي أنشدها الشاعر على إثر زيارة له لمدينة السويس ولمواقع الجنود العرب على قناة السويس، في (23 / 2/ 1969م) ، يقول الشاعر: "أيتها المداخل التي تفتحها القنابل / في غرف الأطفال / أيتها النوافذ الغنية الأحجام والأشكال / أن تكن المنازل / قد أغلقت أبوابها "الرسمية" / فأنتِ أبواب بلا أقفال / سالكة دوماً إلى الحرية".
وفي هذه القصيدة نكون أمام (قصيدة الحرب) التي تمثل واقع الحياة اليومية التي عاشها الناس في حرب 67 في مصر بأبعادها الإنسانية، وقد تحركت وفق ثنائية ضدية تمثلت بثنائية (الحياة والموت) قدمها الشاعر علوش ضمن مزيج من الصور المؤثرة، وخاصة عندما استشعر تأثيرها على الأطفال، في لحظة زمنية خاطفة جعل فيها المسافة المطلقة بين الشهادة والحياة لحظة واحدة لا أكثر.
يضم الكتاب قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث كُتبت بين الأعوام (1967-1970) جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "عبد الرحمن" ، "باب المحبة" ، "المجد للمقاتلين" ، "وهج البنادق" ، "هدية العيد" ، "لن تخرجونا" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
