لم يحصل بيكر طوال حياته على إعتراف بشاعريته ومغايرته للأوساط الشعرية آنذاك، والواقع أن الاهتمام به وإبراز أثره على الشعرية الإسبانية قد جاء فيما بعد وبالأخص على أيدي كبار الشعراء الإسبان في القرن العشرين ومنهم أنطونيو ماتشادو وصاحب نوبل خوان رامون خمينيث وفدريكو غارثيا لوركا، وهي نفس الأصوات التي عادت لقراءته والكتابة على منواله وتحريض الأجيال الجديدة بالنظر لقصائد بيكر، ليس كونها قصائد عاطفة أولية وشعرية مبتدئة، بل كونها قصائد تتسم بالنضج والعمق والسمو الشعري، هذا إضافة لخروجها وتمردها الأولي على منظومة الشعرية الصارمة آنذاك.
لقد كانت قصائد بيكر على رأي ماتشادو: "أشبه بتيار عالي التوتر، نزيف جرح طازج، لذلك رفضه عصره لأن بساطة التعبير لديه لم تأتلف مع الشعر الإسباني في تلك الحقبة بأدائها المسرحي ومساحيقها اللغوية المبالغ بها".
