"أبو المحاسن" شاعر مبدع في شعره وهو من أبرز شعراء عصره نتاجاً في الكم والكيف فقد جمع بين الطبع والصنعة، وبين الموهبة والتعليم، فكان شاعر الثورة بلا منازع وشاعر كربلاء الأول كما يراه جامع ديوانه وعميد جمعية الرابطة الأدبية في النجف الأشرف الشيخ محمد علي اليعقوبي، وإن وجود دراسة عن هذا الشاعر في المكتبة الأدبية العربية ضرورة تفرضها طبيعة متابعة الشعر العربي في كل مراحل تطوره أو انتكاسته.
والمؤسف أن الشاعر لم يكتب عنه شيء ولم يلط عليه الضوء الكافي من خلال دراسات تستوعب نتاجه الأدبي أسوة بالآخرين من شعراء عصره. وسداً لهذه الثغرة اهتم الباحث "نوري كامل محمد حسن" بإعداد دراسته هذه والتي تقدم بها لينال عليها درجة الماجستير في آداب اللغة العربية من جامعة صلاح الدين.
وبالعودة لطبيعة هذه الدراسة نجد أنها قد اقتضت في الباحث أن تكون في ثلاثة فصول مع تمهيد عن الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية والفكرية للعراق خلال السنوات الأخيرة لحكم العثمانى وبداية الاحتلال البريطاني للعراق. سلط فيها إضاءات مختصرة لأبرز أحداث هذه الفترة والتي تركت آثارها على حياة الشاعر وشعره.
أما الفصل الأول فخصصه لتناول شخصية الشاعر وما يتعلق بها من اسمه، كنيته، لقبه، نسبه، مولده، نشأته، وثقافة الأدبية، الدينية، السياسية، والصفات المميزة لشخصيته وعلاقته مع رجال أو قادة ثورة العشرين. وتناول في الفصل الثاني الفنون الشعرية عند هذا الشاعر أو ما يطلق عليها أحياناً بموضوعات الشعر مستعرضاً الأغراض الشعرية القديمة كالمديح والرثاء والوصف والهجاء ثم التوجهات الإسلامية التي حكمت هذه الأغراض وركزت على المفاهيم الإسلامية الدينية في شعره كمفهوم الجامعة الإسلامية ورفض الانتداب البريطاني والاهتمام بقضايا المسلمين في العالم والدعوة إلى الحكم الإسلامي وحمايته.
وخصص الفصل الثالث في الدراسة الفنية لخصائص شعره، تناول فيه بناء القصيدة ولغته وأسلوبه وأنواع البديع والمحسنات اللفظية والمعنوية، والقوافي والبحور أي نظم بها، وختم البحث بخلاصة واستنتاج كثمرة للجهد المبذول...
