ولد بحلب، وفيها تلقى تعليمه.
عمل في بيروت محرراً لمجلة «المكشوف»، وأصدر مع عمر فاخوري ورئيف خوري مجلة «الطريق»، وتولى رئاسة تحريرها من 1941- 1947، ثم تولى إدارة مكتب دار الهلال المصرية ومراسلة صحفها، ثم عمل مديراً للمكتب الصحفي في رئاسة الأركان السورية، وعاد بعدها ليصدر مجلة «الحرية»، ثم ليؤسس دار نشر باسم «دار الكاتب العربي».
له العديد من المؤلفات، منها: ـ أبو ذر الغفاري: أول ثائر في الإسلام.
ـ جمال الدين الأفغاني: حكيم الشرق.
ـ أشهر المحاكمات في التاريخ.
ـ محمد عبده: بطل الثورة الفكرية في الإسلام.

"كان الحب شاغلي الأوحد، على الرغم من تعدد الأعمال التي قمت بها والأحوال التي عرضت لي، إذ كنت كاهناً، فجندياً، فكاتباً، فمحامياً، فشاعراً، فضحية من ضحايا محاكم التفتيش. نفيت من وطني، وطردت من مدن عدة، واحترفت العزف على الكمنجة، ومارست السحر وانتسبت إلى شيعة الماسون، وانخرطت في الشرطة السرية، و قمت بكثير من الحرف والأعمال الأخرى. وكنت دائماً موفور المال، أحصل عليه من أشتات الطرق المشروع منها وغير المشروع! بيد أن الحب كان كما قلت شغلي الأوحد. فقد شعرت منذ البدء بأني إنما ولدت لا نذر نفسي للجنس الجميل، فأحببته كل الحب وبادلني عاطفتي بمثلها، وكنت أجد في عشيقاتي دائماً عبقاً شذياً... لن أسجل في هذه الصفحات مغامراتي كلها، ولكني سأجمع فيها بين نخبة من النساء المفضلات اللواتي أحببتهن حباً عظيماً. وإذا كانت السن قد أخمدت أهوائي وابتلتني بالعجز، فإن قلبي لم يكتهل، ولا تزال ذاكرتي حية فتية. كانت لي عشيقات في كل بقعة من بقاع الأرض، لأني رحلت من مكان إلى آخر مثلما ترحل الأسطورة، وعشت في النار دون أن أتحول إلى رماد. غير أن حروقي القديمة لا تزال تنتزع من صدري أخر التنهيدات...".
