بدأ الكاتب دراسته بإهداء ثم بتمهيد مطوّل تضمن تعريفاً لغوياً واصطلاحياً وبلاغياً لكلمة “العدول”، متناولاً مذاهب الدارسين والباحثين في هذا المجال، ومستشهداً بأقوال عدد منهم قديماً وحديثاً. ثم بحث في ما أسماه فلسفة الجندر في قصيدة “في البدء كانت الأنثى” للدكتورة سعاد الصباح، منتقلاً إلى بحث فلسفة الحلول الشعرية في قصيدة “بطاقة من حبيبتي الكويت”. وتوقف عند قصيدة “ليلة القبض على فاطمة” ببحث “بين التواصل والعدول”، مروراً بالاستلهام والتوظيف في قصيدة “زمان اللؤلؤ”، مختتماً بقصيدة “تحت المطر الرمادي” في بحث مسبار الذات.
