فقد اشتمل هذا الكتاب على ثمانية فصول تتضمن أساسيات عملية التدريس التي يجب أن يكتسبها ويتقنها المعلم، خصص الفصل الأول لتوضيح ماهية عملية التدريس، وكيف يمكن النظر إليها، والمفاهيم والمصطلحات التي ترتبط بالتدريس وطرقه وأساليبه، ومبادئه، كما عالج الفصل الثاني الأهداف التربوية ومستوياتها، ومصادر اشتقاقها والأهداف السلوكية وكيفية صياغتها، والأخطاء الشائعة في صياغتها، وأمثلة تطبيقية في مختلف المواد الدراسية، وتناول الفصل الثالث مهارات التخطيط للتدريس، وأهمية التخطيط ومراحله ومستوياته، وأمثلة تطبيقية في مختلف المواد الدراسية، كما اشتمل الفصل الرابع على بعض مهارات تنفيذ التدريس مثل: مهارة التهيئة، ومهارة الإدارة الصفية، ومهارة استخدام وسائل وتكنولوجيا التعليم، وخصص الفصل الخامس لطرق التدريس وأساليبه المختلفة، وخطوات ومميزات وعيوب كل طريقة من الطرق، وكذلك أساليب التدريس المختلفة التي يمكن استخدامها في تنفيذ التدريس، وتناول الفصل السادس أساليب التدريس، كما تناول الفصل السابع: خرائط المفاهيم، أسلوب للتدريس الفعال، وتناول الفصل الثامن: التقويم وتضمن مهارات التقويم وأنواعه وأدواته ووسائله المختلفة، والتقويم والتدريس العلاجي، والامتحانات ومشاكلها.
