نظراً لأهمية الانشطة التعليمية في بناء شخصية المتعلم وإثراء معلوماته، وبخاصة تلك التي تعلمها في محتوى موضوعات الدروس في الكتب المدرسية، فقد ركزت معظم الكتب والتقنيات الحديثة على الأنشطة بكافة أشكالها وبخاصة الأنشطة التي تتطلب من المتعلمين القيام بأداء عمل معين، فنلاحظ معظم الكتب والبرمجيات قد تضمنت أنشطة متنوعة منها ما ينفذ داخل الغرفة الصفية، ومنها ما ينفذ خارج الغرفة الصفية، وهناك الكثير من الأنشطة الموجهة للطلبة وفقاً لطبيعة البيئة التي يعيشون فيها، حيث تتعدد البيئات الطبيعية المحيطة بالطلبة فإن غالبية الأنشطة جاءت مراعية لهذا التنوع والتعدد وأتاحت للطلبة حرية الإختيار للأنشطة التي تتوافق وبياتهم.
وهذا يقع على عاتق المربين الإهتمام بميول الطلبة وقدراتهم والعمل على صقلها وتنميتها من خلال التركيز على إستخدام خامات البيئة والقيام بالأنشطة المرغوب تحقيقها.
جاء الكتاب في خمسة فصول، تناول الفصل الأول الأنشطة التعليمية من حيث مفهومها وإرتباطها بالعملية التعليمية وأهدافها ووظائفها ودور كل من المشرف والمعلم في بناء وتصميم الأنشطة، مع عرض لبعض تطبيقات الأنشطة التعليمية، وتطرق الفصل الثاني لتفريد التعليم والتعلم الذاتي من حيث فلسفة تفريد التعليم والتعلم الذاتي والمبادئ الأساسية لتفريد التعلم والتعلم الذاتي وأدوار المعلم وأنماط التعلم الذاتي.
أما الفصل الثالث فقد تناول التقويم من حيث مفهومه ومجالاته ووظائفه، أما الفصل الرابع فقد تعرض للوسائل والتقنيات التعليمية وأهميتها ومراحل توظيفها، وتناول الفصل الخامس الجودة في التعليم والتعلم وبيان المهارات التي تساعد على تحقيقها.
