بهذه الكلمات يختصر المؤلف قصة سليم الشاب الوسيم الذي عاش حياته من التقيد بالعادات الإجتماعية ولا يكبله موروث لا يتفق مع تطور العصر، إلا أنه بعد سلسلة من التجارب العاطفية الفاشلة وبعدما تخطى السنين من العمر لم يوفق في شبابه لا في الحب ولا في الزواج، شاء القدر أن يتعرف على لار، فتاة تصغره بأكثر من ثلاثة عقود بدّلت حياته العاطفية من صحراء قاحلة إلى واحة زاهرة، ولكن هل سيستطيع الحب أن يتغلب على فارق العمر وعلى حقيقة زواجه من إليزابيت المقعدة؟!!...
