هذا موجز في الكنايات العامية البغدادية، قديمها وحديثها، فيها الغث، وفيها السمين، في بعضها ما ينجذب إليه الطبع، وفي البعض الآخر ما ينبو عنه السمع، وقد رأيت أن إثبات بعضها، وإغفال البعض الآخر، مما يخل بأمانة النقل، فأوردتها بعجزها وبجرها (كناية قديمة) وأثبتها بصوفها ولبنها (كناية موصلية) وسقتها بتبنها (كناية بغدادية) كي لا يقع علي لوم، أو يوجه إلي عتب بأني قد أوردت البحث ناقصاً.
وأنا لا أدعي بأني في هذا الموجز، قد أحطت بجميع الكنايات العامية البغدادية، وإنما جمعت منها ما استوعبته ذاكرته، لأنني لم أرجع في جمعها إلى مرجع غير الحافظة، ومن اعتمد على الحافظة، لا يلمن أن يفوته الكثير.
