حياة أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب حافلة بالمجد والعطاء وشمائله أكثر من يجمعها كتاب أو يحصيها أحد، فله فضل السبق في الإسلام، آمن بالرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم عندما لم تؤمن به الكثيرون، وفرج بسيفه الكرب عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وله مواقف ومشاهد عز نظيرها وقل مثيلها. وهو إلى ذلك كله أبو السبطين، وزج السيدة فاطمة الزهراء القبول وإليه ينتهي المجد والفصل والشرف. تتطاول أعناق الرجال إلى مثل مجده ورفعته.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف مقبساً من نور عطائه وقطرة من بحر جوده وفضله حيث اختار 1001 ألف قصة وقصة من حياته المليئة بالتفاصيل التي يعجز عن الإلمام به فرد واحد. والكتاب موضوع أصلاً باللغة الفارسية وقد عني المترجم بإخراجه بصورته الحالية حيث حذف من الأصل الفارسي بعض القصص المكررة التي وردت بألفاظ مختلفة.
وقام بتغيير مواقع وعناوين بعض القصص لرواع فنية الفصل الأول يستعرض حياته من الولادة إلى البعثه، ويعرض الفصل الثاني من البعثة إلى رحلة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم. أما الفصل الثالث فهو يعرض فصولاً من حياة الإمام علي بعد وفاة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، ويعرض الفصل الرابع لحكومة الإمام علي وبيعته، وخبر شهادته في المدن الإسلامية، أما الفصل الخامس فيقدم قصصاً متفرقة من حياة الإمام علي رضي الله عنه.
