هذا الكتاب يعد من ضمن الختمات التي ألقاها الشيخ أبو المواهب جعفر بن ادريس الكتاني لصحيح البخاري وهي ختمة تضمنت عدة أمور: شرح مفردات آخر باب من أبواب البخاري وشرح آخر حديث فضل علم الحديث، وفضل علم الحديث، وترجمة للإمام البخاري، ثم الخاتمة في الدعاء.
وفي كل باب من تلك الأبواب، يستقدم المؤلف ما يتعلق بها من المباحث العقيدية، والفقهية، والإصطلاحية، والنحوية، واللغوية، فهو كالبستان فيه ما لذ وطاب من العلوم والحكم والفوائد، مما يستفيد منه العالم وطالب العلم، ويجد فيه ضالته من شرح آخر حديث من أحاديث صحيح البخاري.
وقد ذيّلنا هذا الكتاب بختم للمؤلف على همزية الإمام محمد بن سعيد البوصيري ثم المصري قدس سره، وهي ختمة مباركة، شرح فيها مؤلفها أبياتاً من البردة للبوصيري نفسه، فيها من أفانين البلاغة، والإستشهادات الشعرية، والتفنن في المدح النبوي، والتلذذ في إستخراج الكمالات المحمدية، بلسان جامع، بحيث يحق أن يتغنى بها في المجامع، وتتلى على رنات المسامع، ما يقف عليه القارئ، ويتلمس لطفه وعمقه في آن واحد.
