اهتم العديد من الباحثين والعلماء سواء في مجال الإتصال أو السياسة أو المجالات الأخرى بموضوع علاقة إستخدام وسائل الإعلام في السياسة والعلاقة الإرتباطية بين الإتصال الجماهيري والمشاركة السياسية، وعلى الرغم من إختلاف نتائج الدراسات وتضاربها إلا أنها تكاد تجمع على أن هناك دوراً ما لوسائل الإتصال الجماهيري في حث الجمهور ودفعه إلى القيام بالنشاط السياسي، فتقوم وسائل الإعلام بحركتين متعاكستي الإتجاه ومتكاملتين في نفس الوقت في عملية الإتصال السياسي بين الحاكم والمحكوم، فهي من جهة تنقل المدخلات، عندما تجعل الحكام يستعملون عن حالة المجتمع، وتحمل إليهم مختلف المواقع والمطالب والآراء والمظالم التي يعبر عنها المجتمع والجماعات الإجتماعية التي يحتويها، كما أنها تقوم في الجهة المقابلة بنقل المخرجات إلى المواطنين، حيث تكون خير قناة يعتمد عليها الحكام في التعريف بنواياهم لدى المواطنين، وشرح سياساتهم وتبرير قراراتهم.
يستعرض الكتاب الآتي مختلف القضايا النظرية المتعلقة بمسألة الإتصال السياسي، ودور وسائل الإعلام في السياسة، كما يستعرض بعض المقاربات العملية المرتبطة بممارسة الإتصال السياسي في الجزائر تحديداً، كمسألة بناء النقاش العمومي حول المسائل السياسية في بعض الصحف في الجزائر، ويتطرق الكتاب أيضاً لموضوع دور الرسائل المفتوحة التي تنشرها الصحف الجزائرية كإطار نسقي عملية الإتصال السياسي بين الحكام والمحكومين.
