يعتبر الطب في بلاد الأندلس إمتداداً طبيعيّاً للطب في العصر العباسي، فقد اهتم الخلفاء والملوك بالأطباء ومهنة الطب، وأجزلوا لهم العطاء، وساعد ذلك على تشجيع الأطباء المسلمين على التفرغ للبحث العلمي، وتحسين صناعة الطب في مجال الكشف والفحص والتشخيص والعلاج، وظهر في الأندلس الكثير من الأطباء المبدعين أضافوا العديد من النظريات العلمية والملاحظات الطبية، وتركوا تراثاً طبياً عربياً وإسلامياً، استطاعت أوروبا أن تنهل منه، وتعتمد عليه في تطوير مهنة الطب عندها.
وأشهر أطباء الأندلس هم أسرة ابن زهر مثل: أبي العلاء بن زهر الذي كانت له طُرقه الخاصة في علاج المرضى، وكان حجة في تشخيص المرض.
وكذلك بالأخص صاحب هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، فقد تمكن من وصف إلتهاب الناصور، والسل المعوي، والشلل البلعومي، والتهاب التامور، والتهاب الأذن الوسطى، وشرح كيفية فتح القصبة الهوائية، وكيفية إستخراج الحصاة من الكُلى، ونصح بعلاج داء الترناكوما الحر عن طريق الجراحة، كما استطاع تغذية المرض بالحقنة الشرجية، أو عن طريق شق المريء.
وهذا الكتاب "التيسير" تناقلته أيدي النساخ والمترجمين فوُضعت له على الفور ترجمتان عبرية ولاتينية، فهو يعد عند الأطباء من أعظم الكتب مرتبة في تاريخ الطب العربي، ولا يقل شأنه عن الحاوي للرازي، والقانون لإبن سينا.
