هذه الرواية التي اختارتها جائزة دار الفكر للإبداع والنقد الأدبي في دورتها الخامسة تعبّر عن العذابات المختلفة والآلام النفسية والعاطفية للفلسطينيين، خرج بطل الرواية من بلده يافا إلى القاهرة بعدما أمضى في المعتقل عشر سنوات تحت العذاب… ثم حطّ به الطواف في العاصمة الفرنسية ليعيش فيها عشر سنوات أخرى، حاملاً معه أفكاره المتوثبة وجرحه النازف... وقلبه المتفتت، وأحلامه بالعودة إلى أسرته... زوجته وأولاده، وأمه التي قدمت للوطن ثلاثة شهداء... ولما سمح له بالعودة في سعاية من أصدقائه ببلده... وبعد اتفاقات أوسلو شدّ رحاله إلى غزة لا إلى يافا، وهو لا يعلم المصير الذي سيلقاه.
اختارت الجائزة هذه الرواية لما وجدت فيها من أفكار هامة تؤرق المجتمع العربي كله وتعيش في وجدانه وضميره، لا في وجدان الفلسطينيين وحدهم... صورها الروائي من خلال حياة البطل الشاقة في غربته... وعبر عنها بأسلوب فني متميز محكم البناء... يتسم بالنفس الروائي الطويل الذي يمكن من رصد أكبر قدر ممكن من أشياء النفس والحياة والوجود في حيّز محدد. هذا وقد اعتمد المؤلف تقانات روائية استطاعت أن تحرك آلات الإدراك عند المتلقي، أضاف إليها حبكة قوية تشد القارئ، وتدفعه إلى الاستنتاج والكشف، كل ذلك بلغة شعرية صافية مبسطة، تمكنت من توصيل مراد الكاتب، وإحداث التخيل لديه.
