يعتبر الزواج من الناحية الإجتماعية، نظاماً إجتماعياً معروفاً أساساً بعلاقة رجل بإمرأة، علاقة يقرها القانون وتنظمها العادات والتقاليد، فهو السنة الحميدة والعلاقة الهامة بين الزوجين، تقوم على أسس وقيم دينية وإجتماعية وإقتصادية، وهو عامل أساسي بنظم بقاء النوع الإنساني، وحدث إجتماعي هام بين الأسرتين المتصاهرتين ووصال حميم بين إنسانين.
فالسعادة الزوجية هدف نهائي ترمي إليه الأسرة بركنين أساسيين، فالهدف من إنشاء هذه العلاقة أصلاً هو نشدان الإستقرار النفسي والوصول إلى حالة الأمن العاطفي.
يسعى هذا البحث تحقيق ما يلي: "الوقوف على أهم العوامل التي قد تساهم في حدوث العنف الزواجي وهذا عن طريق إستخدام التصورات الإجتماعية كأسلوب في البحث"، "معرفة مدى تأثير بعض المتغيرات الديمغرافية على التصورات الإجتماعية للأزواج فيما يخص العوامل المساهمة في ظهوره".
كما تتجلى أهمية البحث الحالي في النقاط التالية: "أنها تتناول ظاهرة نفسية - إجتماعية - العنف الزواجي - بأشكالها المختلفة التي تزداد إنتشاراً في مجتمعنا يوماً عن يوم، وما ينجم عنها من إضطرابات نفسية، إجتماعية وإقتصادية...
تبرز أهمية هذه الدراسة كذلك فيما ستسفر عنه من نتائج تساهم في تقديم العون للذين يسعون لمساعدة الأزواج الذين يقعون تحت وطأة هذا السلوك المنحرف؛ ولأن هدف هذا البحث هو دراسة العوامل المولدة للعنف الزواجي في المجتمع الجزائري، فقد دعمنا هذا الجانب النظري بآخر ميداني محاولين إبراز التصورات الإجتماعية لهذه الظاهرة.
