الشيخ أحمد: أوصيك على زينب؟ سلمان: إنها في عيني، الشيخ أحمد: والطفل المنتظر؟ سليمان: لا يوصي أب على ولده... لم توصيني... هل أنت مسافر؟ الشيخ أحمد: ريما... (بعد أن ألمح الهلع على وجه حسين أثناء حديثه والشيخ) ما الحكاية؟... أخبراني. الشيخ أحمد: لا أبداً... كيف والدتك... وزينت... كيف أبوك؟ سلمان: إنه متذمر لأم البرتغاليين أقالوه وعينوا بدلاً عنه أبا جابر. الشيخ أحمد: لعل الله يغفر له... قل لي أني أسامحه. سلمان: قل لي يا خالي إلى أين أنت مسافر؟ (يسمع صوت جلبة حفيفة.. يتنبه الجميع لها.. حسين ما الذي يمكنه أن يكون؟ حسين: ريما قطة مرت. سلمان (يقف) سأستطلع الأمر... يخرجان، ويبقى الشيخ أحمد وحيداً.. يمسك مصحفاً ويبدأ بالتلاوة. الشيخ أحمد: (بصوت عذب) "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم... والعصر..إن الإنسان لفي خسر..." تقطع رصاصة صوت الشيخ فجأة وتخترق صدره.. تتبعها أخرى، يسقط الشيح أحمد على الكتب التي تتناثر في الأرض.. يسقط المصحف من يده) الشيخ أحمد: يمسك مكان الدم الذي يفور متألماً... وبصوت متقطع.. مغلوها.. ما أنا سوى واحد... سيأتونكم كالمد... ينزع كل ظالم من تراب هذه الأرض... آه.. (يرفع يده التي تقطر بالدم إلى المساء).. آن غليك يا أم زينب.. آت إليكم أيها الأصدقاء... (يتقطع صوته أكثر) أشهد ألا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمد رسول الله...
