في دراسته هذه يتناول الدكتور حمدي أحمد بدران ظاهرة "العنف الأسري" دوافعه وآثاره على المجتمع والأسرة والأطفال وسبل مكافحته، والكتاب رسالة خاصة يبعث بها المؤلف إلى كل أسرة مصرية ترغب في العيش الهني والحياة المستقرة، والسبب أن هذه الظاهرة باتت تهدد الزوجات والأولاد، وبدأت تتصاعد وتيرتها وتعصف بكل معاني الحب حتى استشرت كالنار في الهشيم.
ولهذا كان لا بد من إلقاء المزيد من الضوء على تلك الظاهرة، من حيث تعريف العنف الأسري، والأسباب والدوافع التي تؤدي إلى إنتاج طريق العنف في الأسر المصرية، وأيضاً الآثار السلبية لظاهرة العنف الأسري، ووضع الحلول المناسبة لمكافحة تلك الجائحة.
وفي هذا السياق، يتناول المؤلف أبعاد ظاهرة العنف الأسري وأنواعه ودوافعه (الذاتية، الإقتصادية، الإجتماعية) وآثار العنف على الزوجة والأولاد والمجتمع.
وعليه، يبرر المؤلف دراسته لظاهرة العنف الأسري وآثارها بالقول: "أنها بدأت تطفو على السطح، مما ينبئ أن ظاهرة العنف الأسري في إزدياد، وهذه الظاهرة تحتاج إلى تدخل الدولة والمؤسسات الأهلية، والباحثين والمهتمين بقضايا حقوق المرأة، وكذلك أيضاً رجال الدين الإسلامي والمسيحي على السواء... وحيث أن العنف الأسري بداية الطريق لتفكك الأسرة المصرية، مما يترتب عليه إنحراف الأولاد، وظهور مشكلة أولاد الشوارع وإزدياد معدل الجريمة".
