تدور أحداث هذا الكتاب ما بين عامي 1982 - 1986 واصفة رحلة الشاب العربي السوري عدنان عزام الذي شق طريقه على ساحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط الشمالي من دمشق الى باريس عن طريق تركيا واليونان وإيطاليا وفرنسا وإسبانيا، ثم تصف في أجزائه اللاحقة رحلته عابراً الولايات المتحدة من غربها الى شرقها، وعودته الى وطنه الأم سوريا عابراً المغرب العربي، الى مكة المكرمة والجزيرة العربية والأردن. هذه الملحمة الرائعة لم تكن مجرد نزهة، بل عودة الرحالة العربي الى مسرح الأحداث بعد غياب طويل.
هي تأسيس لمعرفة الغرب كما هو بعيداً عن تأثيرات عقود من الاستشراق والاحتلال والتبعية والشعور بالنقص والدونية أو رفضه السلبي، هي محاولة للتقريب بين الشرق والغرب، في وقت تزداد الهوة بينهما بسبب العدوانية الأمريكية ومساندتها المطلقة للصهيونية الجاثمة على أرضنا العربية. وقد أعطى تحقق هذه الرحلة على ظهر حصان حول العالم زخماً وحيوية، ولم لا؟! فقد كان الحصان دوماً صلة الوصل بين الشرق والغرب وجعلها تحظى باهتمام العديد من وسائل الاعلام في العالم. كما عكست الرحلة ارتباط الرحالة العربي عدنان عزام العضوي الوثيق بأرضه وشعبه وتاريخه وحضارته العربية والدفاع عنها والتعريف بها.
