يشكل هذا الكتاب موسوعة تتحدث عن تاريخ الأندلس من الفتح الإسلامي حتى قيام الدولة الأموية وازدهارها ، ويبدأ أولى مشاهده بالقرن الخامس المسيحي ، في ( بلاد الرومي ) أو العرب في إسبانيا وجنوبي فرنسة ، وذلك عندما دخل القوط شبه الجزيرة الأبرية ( الأندلس ) واستولوا عليها بعد أن أخضعوا القبائل البربرية التي كانت قد سبقتهم إليها . وبينتهي بقيام الدولة الأموية ، وما بين هذا ، وذاك تاريخ كامل يستعيد خلاله المؤلف سيرة موسى بن نصير بافريقية ، وافتتاح قرطبة ، وشجاعة طارق بن زياد ، واستيلاءه على غرناطة ووادي الحجارة ومدينة سالم وموقف موسى بن نصير مما صنعه طارق " ما كنت لأسلك طريق طارق ولا أقفوا أثره " ، وكيف مضى موسى إلى أشبيلية جارتها وحاصرها وهي أعظم مدائن الأندلس شأناً ، وأعجبها بياناً ... بعد ذلك يستعرض الكتاب ملامح " الإنتفاضة " في أسبانيا ، وكان احتجاجها عما يحميها من غزوات المسلمين ، فتشكلت مقاومة ترأسها دوق قنطبرية ، وكان له إبن فالفونسة توصل إلى العرش ولعب دوراً خطيراً جداً في تأسيس مملكة أشتورس .
وفي الكتاب أيضاً قصة " عبد الرحمن الداخل " صقر قريش ووصوله إلى الحكم ، ثم قصة " عبد الرحمن الأوسط " وأولاده ومنهم الأمير " محمد الوالي " ، وأبو القاسم المطرف . وإسهام الأندلسيين في فتح صقلية ، ونبذة عن الأردمانيون - أصلهم - غاراتهم على الأندلس ، وكيف تم القضاء على عبد الرحمن الأوسط بعد مرضه .
هذا الكتاب يقصر البيان عن توصيفه، ويعجز عن تعريفه، لأنّه نظم تربويّ أرقّ من الماء، لفظه قريب المنال بعيد المرام، وصوغه منضبط النظام من البدء إلى الختام؛ وقد استنبط صاحبه مفاتيح فصوله من ينابيع صدره، واستخرجها من بحور كشفه، وأظهرها لأصحاب البصائر، وأهداها للأفكار والضمائر، في وجوه مختلفة، وضروب متفرّقة، أسّسها على الحق والصدق والعلم والمعرفة، في ألفاظ اتّسمت بالقول الثابت، منكشفاً على أسرار العلم التي هي مصابيح تُزيل، بنورها، ظلمة الشكّ والرّيبة، محتوياً على قواعد تنجلي بها حقائق في اللغة والتربية والتعبير، بعبارات لطيفة، وكلمات رشيقة، تُنبئ عن لطائف الأفكار، وألفاظ صريحة تكشف وجوه أبكار المعاني عن حجب الأسرار، مع ما اندرجت فيه من رموز اللغة وفنون المعرفة، في فطرة سليمة وسليقة مستقيمة، وفكرة صائبة صادرة عن واهب العقل بالحكمة.
وهذا الكتاب، الّذي نُقدّم له، من طراز الكتب الجوامع، إذ مزج فيه كاتبه اللغة بالتربية والخبرة مزجاً أنيقاً، ودمج فيه العناصر المتقابلة في ظاهرة الأفهام، وفي الطرائق الحديثة؛ فيلزم درسه وبحث عناصره وطرقه، حتّى تتفتّح لقارئه أبواب اللغة والتربية والتعليم.
