يبحث هذا الكتاب في نشأة وتطور إعجاز القرآن في الغرب الإسلامي حيث يتحدث عن نشأة التفسير بالغرب الإسلامي واتجاهاته ويحدد تطور بحوث الإعجاز بالغرب الإسلامي من القرن الخامس الهجري إلى القرن الثامن الهجري. ويتعرض لبيان جهود علماء العقيدة في دراسة إعجاز القرآن, حيث يبين نشأة الفكر العقدي في الغرب الإسلامي, ويدرس جهود ابن حزم الظاهري في إعجاز القرآن, وجهود أبي عمار عبد الكافي الإباضي في دراسة ظاهرة الإعجاز في كتابه الموجز, وكذلك جهود الأشعرية المغاربة في دراسة إعجاز القرآن. ويبين جهود ابن عطية من خلال تفسيره المحرر الوجيز وجهود القرطبي في هذا المجال, ويدرس جهود ابن الزبير الغرناطي وأبي حيان الأندلسي وابن عرفة الورغمي, وجهود المفسرين في دراسة مجازات القرآن. ويتحدث عن جهود علماء السيرة النبوية المغاربة في دراسة إعجاز القرآن ودلائل النبوة ويبين نشأة علم السيرة بالغرب الإسلامي ويتناول جهود كل من: ابن سبع السبتي من خلال مخطوطة شفاء الصدور, والقاضي عياض في دراسة المعجزات الحسية والعقلية لرسولنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم, وعبد الرحمن السهيلي في دراسة دلائل النبوة في روضة الأنف ويبرز نتائج البحث المستخلصة. ويتحدث عن جهود المفسرين في المغاربة في دراسة الإعجاز ولاشك أن المفسرين كان لهم اهتمام اكثر من علماء العقيدة والسيرة بظاهرة الاعجاز, لأنها من المقاصد الأصلية في مباحثهم التفسيرية بل إنها عند بعضهم دافع من دوافع التصنيف.و جاء هذا الكتاب بعد مصاعب كثيرة في جمع مواد هذا البحث بين المكتبات العامة, والسفر للبحث وتجميع المعلومات ولا سيما أنه ليست ثمة دراسة سابقة شاملة بهذا الموضوع.
