على مرّ التاريخ الإسلامي، تتابع المسلمون على قراءة القرآن وترتيله وتجويده، حتى أصبح التجويد حتماً لازماً وَعُدَّ من لم يجود القرآن كما أثر عن الحفاظ آثماً. وفي عصرنا الحاضر قيد الله لهذا العلم الاستمرار وفق مناهج يقوم بتدريسها علماء أكفاء، ومنهم الشيخ زيدان محمود سلامة العقرباوي الذي شرفه الله بتدريس علم التجويد، فرأى من واجبه-كما يقول-نحو القرآن الكريم ن يكتب كتاباً في علم التجويد، يكون مرشداً متوخياً فيه سهولة الأسلوب ووضوح المعنى، وبسط الموضوع، وتجنب التعقيد، ليكون للمبتدئين مرشداً وللمجيدين تذكرة، وقد قيد معظم مسائله بشواهد تضمنت ما جاء في متن المقدمة الجزرية للحافظ ابن الجزري ومتن تحفة الأطفال للعلامة الشيخ الجمزوري. وغيرها من المتون المعوّل عليها في هذا الشأن، ولتكملة الفائدة أرفقه بفصل خاص عن أساليب التعليم عند القراء والمقرئين.
يتألف الكتاب من جزءين: الجزء الأول المرشد في علم التجويد للمستوى الأول والثاني والثالث ويتضمن: بحوث في التجويد، واللحن، والاستفادة، والبسملة ومراتب القراءة وأحكام النون الساكنة والتنوين، وأحكام الميم الساكنة-حكم النون والميم المشددتين، الغنة، وصفات الحروف والوقف والابتداء وغيرها، وأما الجزء الثاني فيحوي ما يتعين على القارئ معرفته من مذهب حفص، وطرق حفص، ثم المرشد المختصر (أسئلة وأجوبة) نموذجية، ثم تاريخ القراءة والمقرئين، وحسن آداب القراءة وأخلاقيات هذا العلم وفي كل ذلك فائدة، وخير كلام... كلام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "أفضل العبادة قراءة القرآن".
