مؤلف هذه الرحلة اسمه سليمان السيرافي أول رحالة عربي عراقي قام بها قبل ألف ومئة وخمسين سنة - في القرن الثالث الهجري - أي في سنة 227 هجرية 851 ميلادية، وهي رحلة فريدة في التاريخ العربي.
وهذا الرحالة العراقي الذي سبق جميع الرواد والمكتشفين سواء في الغرب أو الشرق، وهو يصف ما شاهده من العجائب والغرائب في الهند والصين وأندونيسية، وقد كتب رحلته هذه بأسلوب بسيط شيق يستهوي كل قارئ وهذه الرحلة تنقلك إلى سحر الشرق العجيب وتشوقك إلى عدم ترك الكتاب حتى تصل إلى نهايته.
