إن كتاب الله عزوجل هو الكتاب المهيمن على الكتب السماوية السابقة, والتشريعات الوضعية اللاحقة، يقول عنه سبحانه: ﴿ لا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ﴾[ فصلت:42] وقد أنزله على رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم بواسطة أمين الوحي جبريل عليه السلام؛ ليكون مصدر هداية وتنظيم حياة، وسعادة في الآخرة لمن تمسك به واتبع هداه.
ولما كانت علوم القرآن أشرف العلوم وأجلها، وكان شرف العلم على قدر شرف المعلوم، رأينا السلف الصالح رضي الله عنهم قد شرعوا في أعماق بحاره, وتمعنوا في مكنون جواهره وأسراره، فأحاطوه بالعناية الفائقة، والمدارسة البالغة، ولا شك أنهم كانوا أشرف العصور قدرا، وأعلم الطبقات بمعاني كتاب الله العزيز، وأكثرها دراية بدقائق نظمه، وأسرار إعجازه، لما كان معهم من الخصائص والسمات التي لا تتوفر للذين من خلفهم، ومع ذلك كانوا لا يفترون عن البحث فيه والتدبر له، ولا ينقطعون عن المدارسة والمراجعة لمعانيه فيما بينهم، دون أن يحيطوا بأسراره وجميع مراداته، أو أن يدعوا بلوغ الغاية في معانيه.
