هدف هذا الكتاب هو دراسة المشاكل التي يعانيها إنسان الحرب اللبنانية سواءً أكانت نفسية بحتة أو نفسية-عضوية أو نفسية-اجتماعية. وهذه الدراسة بعيدة كل البعد عن الدراسات السياسية أو التاريخية للحرب والتي ملأت مكتباتنا. إذ أن هذه الدراسة تتوجه للبناني كإنسان في الدرجة الأولى، وأحياناً كمواطن، وذلك أثناء بحث المشاكل النفسية-الاجتماعية.
ومن البديهي القول بأن الأمراض التي يعرضها الكتاب ليست مقصورة على الإنسان اللبناني، وإن كانت الحرب تجعله في مقدمة المعرضين للإصابة بها. وهكذا فإن هذا الكتاب يهم القارئ العربي على وجه العموم، خاصة وأنه الأول من نوعه في اللغة العربية بحيث يعرض للأمراض العضوية-النفسية ويبين أحدث الاكتشافات في هذا المجال.
