غازي خوري، أستاذ اللغة العربية، وبعد غيبة طويلة عن الوطن والمحبرة وقلم الرصاص، يعود ثائراً مع مسيحه، حاملاً سيف النقمة بدل المسطرة الصغيرة التي كان يحملها وهو يعلم تلاميذه في مدرسة الضيعة، لكنه ومع كل هواجسه لم ينسَ أن ضيعته "بألف خير" وأن ما جمعه من نوادرها لا يزال حاضراً في ذاكرته التي تحدث النسيان وهو في سن تحظى سن الشاعر الذي سئم الحياة بعد الثمانين. ذاكرة لم تخضع لحساب السنين، تحمل إلينا تراثاً ما زال بعضه حاضراً في ذاكرتنا.
غازي خوري نشأ وتربى ومشى على طريق مهّدها للأبناء والأحفاد جده المعلم إنطوان الخوري الذي كان خزينة تراث الضيعة الذي نقله إلينا هذا الكتاب على طبيعته أي "كما خلقتني يا رب" محترزاً أن تفوته عبارة واحدة فتضيع لذة بذاءاته ويتحول إلى مسخ أو معوّق.
وبما أن التراث، وهو وثيقة من وثائق التاريخ، يجب أن يظهر بحقيقته المصفاة من الإضافات والتحريف والتشويه، جمعه المؤلف بصدق وأمانة حتى لا تضيع لذة التشويق في عرضه، وفي الختام أقول: إن هذا الكتاب ستكون حظوته في الضيعة.
