بعد أن ألَّف الإمام ابن مجاهد كتابه " السبعة " في القراءات، أخذ العلماء ينسجون على منواله متتبعين القراءات المتواترة التي تزيد على السبعة، ولهم في ذلك أغراض، فكان ممن تتبع ذلك الإمام: صدقة بن سلامة بن حسين "المَسْحَرائي" فألف كتابه الماتع (التتمة في قراءة الثلاثة الأئمة) مختصرا إياه من كتابي: «الإرشاد» للإمام أبي العز القلانسي، و«المستنير» للإمام أبي طاهر البغدادي، مستعينا بكتب من سبقه من أئمة هذا الشأن، مع ذكر مسائل متعلقة بأصول القراءة وأوجه الأداء، و قد ازداد هذا الكتاب زينة وبهاء بما قام به المحقق - جزاه الله خيرا - من مقابلة بين نسخ الكتاب، وضبط لنصه، وترجمة للأعلام، و توثيق للقراءات وتوجيهها، والتنبيه على بعض المآخذ على المؤلف، وغير ذلك من النكت العلمية التي تعين القارئ على الاستفادة من هذا الكتاب.
