يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تقديم بحث متكامل عن آليات تَشكُّل النخب، في إطار النظام السياسي الفلسطيني بمكونيه؛ منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية والسلطة الوطنية الفلسطينية. ويسعى لتحليل توجهات أعضاء النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية نحو مستقبل الصراع الفلسطيني - الإسرائيلي؛ سواء من حيث سيره في الاتجاه نفسه من الفعل وردود الفعل بين الفلسطينيين والإسرائيليين، مع التمسك بخيار التسوية السياسية بالرغم من تعثرها، أم بالدعوة لإيجاد أنماط جديدة لحله حلاً نهائياً، وذلك في ضوء بعض الخصائص النوعية للنخبة السياسية الرسمية، كالاتجاه السياسي والمنصب الحالي. كما يهدف إلى الكشف عن طبيعة دور النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية في إدارة الصراع، ومعرفة اتجاهات هذه النخبة نحو الأهداف الوطنية الفلسطينية؛ وآليات حلّ الصراع الفلسطيني - الإسرائيلي؛ وآليات الحل الدولية والإقليمية للصراع. وتأتي أهمية هذه الدراسة في أنها تختبر توجهات النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية نحو الوضع الراهن ونحو مستقبل الصراع العربي - الإسرائيلي، فعلى الرغم من وفرة الدراسات النظرية الأكاديمية التي تناولت النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية، إلا أن هذا الكتاب يحاول أن يضيف جديداً من خلال الدراسات التطبيقية والمقارنة التي تتناول موقف النخب السياسية الرسمية، ونخب المعارضة من قضية الصراع وتطوراته.
