ظهر في وقتنا وفشا في زماننا من الفتن وتغيير الأحوال وفساد الدين واختلاف القلوب وإحياء البدع وأمانة السنة ما دل على انقراض الدنيا وزوالها ومجيء الساعة واقترابها، إذ كل ما قد تواتر من ذلك وتتابع وانتشر، وفشا وظهر قد أعلمنا به نبينا محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم)، وخوفناه، وسمعه منه صحابته رضي الله عنهم وأداه عنهم التابعون رضي الله عنهم، ونقله أئمتنا إلينا عن أسلافهم.
وقد تم للمؤلف في هذا الكتاب جمع جملة كافية من السنن الواردة في الفتن وغوائلها والأزمنة وفسادها وأشراطها وغايته تأديب المؤمن العاقل ليأخذ نفسه برعايتها ويجهدها في استعمالها والتمسك بها، متبيناً بذلك عظيم ما حل به الإسلام وأهله من سفك الدماء ونهب الأموال واستباحة الحرم وغير ذلك مما يذهب الدين ويضعف الإيمان فيعمل نفسه إصلاح شأنه خوفاً منه على فساد دينه وذهابه.
